#ideology

Politicians and media pundits often use the term “anarchists” to conjure images of lawless hooligans causing mindless destruction, warning of a dystopian world that might exist without the rule of law.
In reality, anarchists have been involved in some of the most significant political projects of the last two centuries, whether it’s striking workers winning the eight-hour work day or communities coming together to participate in #mutualaid projects. But #HBO’s new six-part docuseries, “The Anarchists,” features self-described anarchists of a whole different variety: self-interested capitalists and #crypto bros.

Anarchists carrying the torch of the long-standing political tradition are cringing at the series’ portrayal of #anarchism as being compatible with #capitalism. The series is ultimately a character-driven drama about murder and interpersonal conflicts, not a political #documentary focused on #ideology. But uncritically using the term anarchist to describe capitalists mystifies actual anarchist politics for the average viewer, they say.

Ze’ev Jabotinsky, the godfather of the #right-wing ideology that has dominated #Israel since 1977, an #ideology openly embraced by Prime Ministers Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert and Benjamin #Netanyahu, wrote bluntly in 1923:

“Every native population in the world resists #colonists as long as it has the slightest hope of being able to rid itself of the #danger of being #colonized. That is what the #Arabs in #Palestine are doing, and what they will persist in doing as long as there remains a solitary spark of hope that they will be able to prevent the transformation of ‘Palestine’ into the ‘Land of Israel.’ ”

In the witchhunt for #fascism among fringe groups in #Ukraine and especially in the campaign to find #Nazis among the #Azov Regiment, commentators have overlooked the emergence of genuine state fascism in #Russia. This happened because Russian #propaganda abuses political illiteracy to justify its military intervention into Ukraine since 2014. Its goal is to plant the seeds of distrust in Ukraine as broadly as possible. It was this message that was bought all over the world when exposing Ukrainian fringe groups with no actual influence or public support. But in fact, it is Russia that embraced the main principles of fascism and incorporated them into its official #ideology.
In 77 years since the end of World #War II and the #Holocaust, matters of fascism are close enough since some survivors, perpetrators, and bystanders are still alive, but at the same time are far away enough to crystallize an amateur understanding of it as the ultimate evil with recognizable visible attributes.

For years, #Russia’s official #ideology has revolved around the myth that the country is in danger and its enemies are trying to destroy it. The #war in #Ukraine is the logical continuation of this myth. To learn how deep the historical foundations for this conflict go, #Meduza turned to Andrei Zorin, a professor at the University of #Oxford who studies the #history of Russian state ideology and the cultural and political myths that support it.

Know Your Enemy: How to Defeat Capitalism

by #MichaelALebowitz

https://socialistproject.ca/content/uploads/2022/02/know-your-enemy.pdf
https://socialistproject.ca/content/uploads/2022/02/know-your-enemy.mp3

We must put an end to #capitalism. To do that, we must know the #enemy#capital. We will never defeat that enemy if we do not understand it – its effects, its strengths and weaknesses. If, for example, we don’t know capital as our enemy, then crises within capitalism due to overaccumulation of capital or the destruction of the #environment will be viewed as crises of the “economy” or of industrialization – calling for us all to sacrifice.

Indeed, so long as #workers do not see capital as their own product and continue instead to think of the need for healthy capitalists as common sense (and as in their own interest), they will hold back from actions that place capital in crisis. Even if we are successful in struggling to gain control of the state, even if we manage to take government away from capital, we’ll continue to think of capital as necessary if we don’t understand it.

Something important happens when you struggle along with others. You win sometimes, and you learn the importance of #uniting. But it’s not only that your prospect for victory improves. Also, you change. You begin the process of shedding those sides of yourself that capital has produced. You are changing your social relations: in place of separation, there is #solidarity. You know yourself as part of a #community and you come to recognize others as part of that community too. You change in another way in the process. You develop new capacities. It’s what #Marx called “ #revolutionary-practice” – the simultaneous changing of circumstances and human activity or #self-change.

New York’s Stylish Slide Into #Despotism - The Return of the Roaring #Twenties

Source: https://modernheretic.com/

The text is so fitting that this time I have to reproduce very long passages.

concern about the supposed risk posed by “the unvaccinated,” who apparently no longer merit consideration as human beings worthy of compassion; we’ve become in the minds of people like him just a filthy amalgam of contagion and stigma.

They are not, as they have styled themselves in their own delusional minds, the hip Cagney-esque mobster with a heart of gold making gin in the bathtub or the wild flapper dancing the charleston on the roof with a skirt short enough to scandalize the matronly landlady below; they are the scandalized landlady who will snitch to the #police the first chance she gets or the sanctimonious #politician who is building his profitable career on compelled temperance.

#Rebels and #Posers

Despite lusting after subversive non-conformity, these mere re-enactors are content to live in the shadows of their rebel icons, resigned to merely creating the palest imitation of the lives of truly adventurous people from the past instead of having the courage to live their own adventures today. With their obsession for safety, these people can only infuse their lives with the adventure they still crave by living vicariously through others more daring than themselves.

That is why when finally faced with the #opportunity to rage against the machine, these imposters got behind the machine and helped push it along instead. Lacking the moral courage to stand for their supposed convictions, they sublimate their own desire to be deviant into movies and make-believe. From the #punk enthusiast with a shaved head and ripped pants to the John Waters fan who identifies with the Drapes in Crybaby–many of these people who lust after subversive non-conformity and style themselves after countercultural icons are ironically, laughably, pathetically devoted to fitting in.

When it comes to the dichotomy of maestro versus tribal character types, they are #tribal people through and through. In essence, the tribal personality is the #conformist who is conventional, strives to fit in with others, and is great at tasks requiring unity and standardization. The maestro is the aloof non-conformist who is comfortably on their own wavelength, who is not afraid to think outside the box, and prefers to work independently. According to a popular career guidance book, the vast #majority of the population are tribal types, and maestros comprise a tiny minority.

It is easy to see this dichotomy illustrated in the #pandemic. We see it amply demonstrated in mask compliance, with tribal individuals basing the strictness of their mask-wearing, not on any supposed concern about germ prevention— but solely based on what others around them are doing. They are stringent about mask wearing when around others who also appear to be strict in their compliance. But when around others who defy the custom, they let their masks slip down to their chins or even take it off altogether because they know the risk of social ostracism is low. For most people, the mask serves as a social tool rather than a tool of supposed #hygiene.

Tribal people’s sense of values is relative and changes based on their social environments. All the societal evils that have taken place in the United States (and elsewhere) have occurred by the hands of an #establishment with the consent and complicity of masses of otherwise good, tribal-minded people who lacked the #independence and courage to be deviant. If it looks like the majority are going along with something, even something in retrospect that would clearly be deemed wrong or evil, the tribal person will go along with it as well by rationalizing their guilt and responsibility away. These rationalizations, collectively, become mass delusions that are later used to excuse the complicity in the wrong-doing. “We did not now any better,” or “it was a different time,” they will say. Hogwash. They knew exactly what they were doing, but they lacked the courage to stand apart from the crowd. For every mass atrocity that was committed, there was a strident minority that not only knew better but tried to hold the majority to task for its actions. These minorities were #historically and are currently dismissed, ignored, laughed at, socially ostracized, or even penalized.

Progressive #ideology teaches that we are better than previous generations, that we have learned our lessons from past mistakes, and that we will not repeat those mistakes. This is a load of crock, and the past two years have shown that humans are no more evolved now than they were at any previous period, that they are more willing than ever to persecute others for their differences and to subjugate people into #conformity. If nothing else, the pandemic revealed that most people today have no deep understanding of why various past persecutions were wrong, and if persecution today does not look exactly like a persecution of yesterday they cannot recognize it for what it is. Their understanding of persecution as a moral wrong is a reductionist list of rote memorization rather than an innate value borne of an underlying moral #philosophy.

These tribal-minded people, these supposed lovers of #rebellion and #subversion, are going to rationalize their culpability and cowardice away. They always do. They will say that they were operating on the best information they had at the time, that no one could have known, that even the experts were fooled, that they simply followed the leaders and experts.

We cannot let them get away with these lies.

Their complicity was not an innocent mistake as they will try to make us believe, but a willful effort to persecute the rebel #opposition.

Declared emergencies are the most expedient way for governments to seize power and the method by which many military dictatorships come into existence. A medical #dictatorship is a new twist on an old classic. Emergency powers enable politicians to do things they otherwise do not have the power to do and to severely trample on the rights of the citizenry

A quotation by Hertzberg, Hendrik

A political ideology is a very handy thing to have. It’s a real time-saver, because it tells you what you think about things you know nothing about.

A very interesting philosophical look at the current social crisis.

When a #Virus Mutates with #Ideology: Fear-Mongering for the ‘Wellbeing of the Neighbour’ by Alex Janda

Source: The philosophical salon

But lessons learnt from #Germany offer an alternative reading: the outburst of utilitarian morals leads to an unethical impasse ignoring radical #freedom.

Germany is predestined to exemplify the gradual division of an entire #society, of how a ‘politics of fear’ combined with a media strategy of ‘fear induction’ govern political decision-making, and how security understood as the elimination of any ‘virological health risk’ becomes the fulcrum point of the current political strategy to fight a pathogen.

They warn and warn – and people then love them for the fact that their evil forecasts never come true because measures were taken to prevent them. Not only does the prevention paradox lie dormant here, but also a cover-up of our factual unknowing of the future. The exact waves of the virus are not predictable, period. If they were, we would not be able to defend ourselves.

The real scandal is that Germany faces an incredible mismanagement of #Covid-19 based on trickery only to keep the neoliberal system it is built upon.

“Our interest is most particularly engaged by the mental state of expectation, which puts in motion a number of mental forces that have the greatest influence on the onset and cure of physical diseases. Fearful expectation is certainly not without its effect on the result. It would be of importance to know with certainty whether it has as great a bearing as is supposed on falling ill; for instance, whether it is true that during an #epidemic those who are afraid of contracting the illness are in the greatest danger. The contrary state of mind, in which expectation is coloured by hope and faith, is an effective force with which we have to reckon, strictly speaking, in all our attempts at treatment and cure. We could not otherwise account for the peculiar results which we find produced by medicaments and therapeutic procedures."

#Biology as an abstract quantifying #science departs from ‘the work of spirit’ any singular cure relies upon ‘in reality’. Each death or survival is a unique constellation involving unknowns. There is no biometric solution ‘for all’.

The political dimension is clear: if expectations are part of the cure, then is an intentionally induced ‘politics of fear’ based on ideological manipulations not deeply unethical in times of fast-propagating virus? Such political manoeuvres are problematic, as they are justified in the name of the ‘wellbeing of the #neighbour’. This imaginary figure of the neighbour can be read in line with Jacques Lacan’s Ego-Ideal: the proclaimed ‘solidarity’ with an anonymous ‘neighbour’, a non-existent ‘jedermann’, who is shifted to the centre of our #responsibility, only serves as a moralistic pretence to care about one’s own survival.

"First of all, let’s get rid of this average Joe, who does not exist. He is a statistical fiction. There are individuals, and that is all. When I hear people talking about the person on the street, studies of public opinion, mass phenomena, and so on, I think of all the patients that I’ve seen on the couch in forty years of listening. None of them in any measure resembled the others. None of them had the same phobias and anxieties, the same way of talking, the same fear of not understanding.”

Official narratives justifying the current political strategy are supported by such a fundamental phantasy about how ‘the neighbour’ is endangered by the very existence of ‘an-other’ – a phantasy that should be met with reasonable scepticism. Its flipside is ‘unconditional love’ for the ‘general public’ (the new ‘jedermann’).

If we love the ‘general public’, we lose sight of the abyss of the ‘real neighbour’ next to us, who cannot be generalized

Governing, the impossible profession, must be based on strategies that refuse drawing worst-case scenarios only to nurture a vague fear lurking behind any encounter with the unfathomable small other, the fear that is today used to effect a permanent shift towards an executive monopoly on the idea of a ‘general public,’ to which we owe our unconditional love.

a psychic entity bombards the subject with impossible-to-fulfil imperatives, and then rejoices in the inevitable failure to implement them.

... a new form of hyper(in)activity combined with a demand of self-imposed isolation and false asceticism. To make deprivations of most basic rights enjoyable, such a lack comes along with a hyperactive excess in the form of a new variety of everyday rituals.

I find it almost philosophical. Sometimes it seems to me like the fourth grievance of humanity. #Freud formulated it: The first grievances were that man is not the centre of the universe after all, that we are somehow descended from apes and that we are drive-driven. Now we are offended that we, as a technologized society, are not in control of this little virus. We have not yet learned the necessary sovereignty to deal with it.”[xviii]

“But what does responsible action mean? Is it enough – loosely based on #Schiller – to point out to people their free decision to do the right, sensible thing in the pandemic only out of inclination and without external compulsion? Will they then participate voluntarily? Or do we need – loosely based on Immanuel #Kant – a rather strict indication of duty and responsibility? A kind of pandemic imperative: ‘In a pandemic, always act as if you had tested positive and your counterpart belonged to a risk group’?"

How easy it is to be ‘transgressive’ in times, when almost every human interaction is forbidden by law or morally condemned, if you do not follow the govern-mental injunction to inject a hastily developed vaccine. How easy it is to be perceived as the ‘limitless jouisseur beyond law’, when hyper-legislation regulates even basic breathing habits. After ‘sweets without sugar’, ‘coffee without caffein’, ‘sex without contact’, we arrive at pure ‘existence without life’; we work in highly precarious conditions and then go home for private self-isolation to meet on a digital screen owned by #Google & Co.

Precisely such an ideological manoeuvre is needed to install obligatory #vaccination through the backdoor – a former tabu in a country like Germany that is otherwise never tired of remembering its eugenic past.

... we live in the ‘society’ we enact, support, and, therefore, no less deserve. Never has it been more obvious how ‘society’ itself is an effect of repression.

Trying to understand the #world of a #Trump dogmatist

In order for the world view of a Trump dogmatist not to collapse, #reality must be constantly reinterpreted. Hillary #Clinton, for example, was not arrested because she wears an ankle monitor. The storming of the #Capitol was a false flag action by #Antifa to discredit the noble Trump supporters.

But now it is a fact that Trump was not re-elected despite all the tricks and deficits of American democracy. This is still electoral fraud for the Trump dogmatists.

How can #Biden's presidency be reinterpreted in the Trumpian style?

Joe Biden, depending on which #ideology you want to follow, is either a robot, hollogram, #lizard man or a #puppet taking orders from Trump. Trump, meanwhile, is chairman of the US #shadow government and has the real #power, which he wields from behind the scenes. Trump has turned into the #DeepState that he actually wanted to defeat, because one of his goals was to drain the #swamp.

The handy thing about this ideology is that for the next 4 years it can blur reality to such an extent that everything can be reinterpreted. After all, the real ruler Trump controls everything from the background.

Once Trump was elected, his supporters responded to the hashtag #notMyPresident like this: https://twitter.com/frustindian/status/823022665430691840 <- Unfortunately, their mental capacity is not adequate to replace the name Trump with Biden.

Attention from here on I become a prophetess ;)

What happens now if in 4 years Trump remains in retirement and is not re-elected #president as #QAnon predicted it? Clearly reality will be skewed anew. The predictions of Q can only be interpreted like the predictions of #Nostradamus. QAnons have misinterpreted them but the ideology lives on.

So it goes on and on without being able to enter the #FilterBubble. For rationally thinking people of science, this is very difficult to comprehend.

The Covidian Cult (Part III)

by C. J. Hopkins

Whereas 20th-Century totalitarianism (i.e., the form most people are generally familiar with) was more or less national and overtly political, New Normal totalitarianism is supranational, and its ideology is much more subtle. The New Normal is not Nazism or Stalinism. It is global-capitalist totalitarianism, and global capitalism doesn’t have an ideology, technically, or, rather, its ideology is “reality.” When you are an unrivaled global ideological hegemon, as global capitalism has been for the last 30 years or so, your ideology automatically becomes “reality,” because there are no competing ideologies. Actually, there is no ideology at all … there is only “reality” and “unreality,” “normality” and “deviations from the norm.” [+]

#The Pandemic Response as Contemporary Imperialism

left

Source: https://www.wrongkindofgreen.org/2021/08/22/the-pandemic-response-as-contemporary-imperialism/

The almost uniform support for #totalitarian lock-down measures and mandates from those on the #left has been shocking to see and has resulted in a feeling of political homelessness for those whose leftist values are what lead them to view the response to the #pandemic with a sharp critical eye. This article shows that the reason why so many on the left have abandoned the values of freedom of speech and movement, bodily autonomy, and economic justice is because those people belong to the #ideology of #progressivism, which exists outside the left-right dichotomy.

#Progressivism is an ideology that champions limitless growth, unbridled use of #technology and the control of nature over any intrinsic sense of worth or fulfillment. We all get dragged along on the march of ‘progress’ because progressives assume any deviance from their values is inferior and because they tend to control the world’s resources. #Progress under this model is linear; the future is always an improvement on the past, and any attempt to resist change or divert course is seen as regressive and #unscientific.

Progressives often engage in leftist rhetoric, but their proposals always result in strengthening and expanding the existing, inequitable system and further entrenching the current, elite #class.

Progressivism is the direct descendant of the #imperialism that dominated much of Western history for centuries

Progressivism = imperialism

Imperialism is the practice of one group of people forcibly subjecting other groups of people to its authority and control for its own benefit, though the imperialists often rationalize their actions as an attempt to save or improve its victims.

Progressives show no qualms about manipulating people or depriving them of #freedom or livelihood to coerce them into compliance because they have no respect for personal agency, seeing other humans as just another #resource to be mined.

Progressives view humans as separate from the natural environment, treating nature as something merely to be tamed and conquered.

Progressives are obsessed with using data, technocracy, and standardization to create a false veneer of objectivity that they use to reinforce the belief in the supremacy of their ideas and to discount the viewpoints that are discordant with progressive ideology, often disdaining opposition as unscientific and false.

Imperialists’ belief that they have ownership of truth fuels their belief in their own supremacy in a circular manner. They believe they are better and smarter than everyone else and therefore that their beliefs are also superior.

Like the imperialists before them, progressives’ belief in their own superiority is what is used to justify forcing their will on everyone else. They see no problem with censoring criticism, depriving individuals of freedom, and forcing lifestyle choices on others.

Domestic imperialism today

One can recognize progressive imperialists because they are the ones who think their own beliefs are facts and those of the opposition are misinformation to be censored.

They are the ones who believe they are morally justified in forcing other autonomous humans to bend to their will.

The phrase ‘vaccine hesitancy’ is characteristic of progressive imperialism today. The term is a propagandistic tool to pathologize non-compliance with an imperialist vision. Notably, the term implies that there can be no choice on the matter, that it is only a matter of time until everyone gets the vaccine.
The entire discussion has been framed in starkly imperialist terms—asking how the state can overcome people’s objections and force compliance—rather than in the liberal terms of personal sovereignty and pluralism (acknowledging that different viewpoints are equally valid and that the decision should be based on personal choice).

The assumption of infallibility and the feeling of entitlement to play God with someone else’s health is pure #colonization of other human beings. The tendency to assume that someone else’s personal choices about his or her own life should be subordinate to your beliefs is the essence of imperialism. It is an expectation that one can and should dominate others. Such a person is carrying on the storied legacy of the numerous imperialists before them.
Every generation has them, and these people are this era’s imperialist oppressors, though of course, like all imperialists, they see themselves as heroes.

This is particularly salient when you consider the racial dynamics at play with regard to ‘vaccine hesitancy,’ with reluctance to take the vaccine being higher among blacks and other people of color.

The means that they are employing to entice these communities to comply—using everything from free fast food to hip hop videos—suggests that progressives do not think people of color are capable of having intellectual and philosophical rationales behind their decisions to opt-out.

Once again, we see the privileged white upper class acting as #missionaries to spread their beliefs as absolute truth to classes of people they deem inferior to themselves, the modern-day savages whom they must tame, control, and manipulate in service of their supposedly objective worldview.

That is why, despite claiming that their desires for #vaccine mandates are about saving lives, progressives express little concern for the lives of those people who died after getting these novel technological interventions. Those people died in service of progressive goals so their deaths do not matter. To a progressive imperialist, every such death is a righteous one because humans are just another tool to fulfill progressive ends.

We are no longer permitted to live as human beings have lived for millennia because progressives have decided that such ways of life are outdated and wrong. We cannot opt out of new technologies.

Progressives will not allow any other #philosophy of living but their own.

What is #Neoliberalism ?

"Soure": https://dgrnewsservice.org/resistance/indirect/education/what-is-neoliberalism/

This post provides a brief introduction to the current form of #capitalism: #neoliberalism. It includes sections on: neoliberal #ideology; Governmentality – how neoliberalism governs, neoliberal government policies; how neoliberalism is a capitalist class project of domination; the history of neoliberalism in the twentieth century; and the three phase of neoliberalism in government since the 1980s.

Neoliberalism is a form of capitalism and #liberalism. Neoliberalism is the most aggressive form of liberalism ever formulated.

They achieve this by using the state and corporate power to make us act in that way, regardless of what most people want

it is important to differentiate between capitalism and neoliberalism because they are not the same thing – they are not the same KIND of thing. Capitalism is an #economic practice. Neoliberalism is a philosophy about how societies in which that practice prevails should be managed, and a programme which is at least nominally informed that #philosophy, or looks like it is

Indeed, neoliberal decision-makers function as expert designers of an attractive ideological container for their market-friendly political agenda.

#Meritocracy is a key feature of neoliberal ideology. This promotes a “hierarchical and highly unequal set of social relations while claiming to offer individuals from all backgrounds an equal chance to compete for elite status.

Rather than operating along more traditional lines of pursuing the public good (rather than profits) by enhancing civil society and social justice, neoliberals call for the employment of governmental technologies that are taken from the world of business and commerce

A key function of neoliberal ideology is to “secure consent and generate political inertia precisely by enabling the experience of #precarity and individualised impotence to be experienced as normal and inevitable.

Phases of neoliberalism

  1. The ‘New Right’ of Thatcher and Reagan in the US and UK implemented a basic neoliberal economic programme with a range of conservative social policies such as restoring traditional family values, increased military spending, a tough law and order agenda, and limiting multiculturalism.

  2. Second-wave neoliberalism in the 1990s: Clinton’s and Blair’s Third Way
The Blair and Clinton governments in the 1990s took a more centrist approach, that included the majority of neoliberalism combined with socially progressive policies. The governments supported private-sector-led economic growth, combined with the government providing a consistent level of social services to citizens. They also promoted equality for gay people and supported women in the labour market

  3. The third phase of neoliberalism began with bailing out the banks following the 2008 financial crisis. This was followed by austerity – massive cuts to public services. Inequality has increased, life expectancy has declined or stagnated, living standards have dropped. All this has polarised politics with the election of authoritarian, right-wing, isolationist politicians.
